25/26 - The Word in the Wood #12

Posted on 22nd November, 2025

U15 girls had a much welcomed home game today against our good friends at Goffs Oak. We have played each other many times over the years with us coming out on top by an odd goal or two previously. As such, we expected another tough game against a side that doesn’t know when it’s beaten and who carry some real class in No10 Ria and tough as teak defender Serafina. Our girls were up for it today though and knew a fast and clinical start was needed to try and take the air from Goffs’ lungs early!

Lonaldo would give us the perfect start with her first of 4 within 5 mins; this silky, skilled wing wizard can be a difference maker with her guile, eye for a pass and head-shot eye for goal! Maisaldinho was soon in on the act with our second on 11 mins and the first of her own excellent hat trick today. Maisie is a lightning quick killer and rarely misses when through on goal as her numbers show this year.

Midfield magician Aanya, our very own Gazza clone, was next in on the act adding the first of her brace for the day around the 20 minute mark. Goffs don’t give up or roll over and they got a goal back from a long range shot that keeper Emily just got underneath. G9 hadn’t got in on the act thus far but not for the want of trying as she continually probed and prodded trying to get at the Goffs’ defence. They couldn’t keep her quiet for long though. On 27 mins Gabby got the first of another four goal haul for her on the day, that takes her season’s tally to 19 already this season!

Poppy N got in on the goal fest with a 1-2 and a driving run into the box where she was brought down; she dusted herself off got up and buried the pen she had earned. Goffs managed another goal against the run of play with the girls’ focus understandably on scoring goals now, but to their credit the Goffs’ girls never quit and kept fighting all day. Elsinho was our last scorer today; this dancing, fleet-footed, willow the wisp of a winger is so dangerous in tight areas. Elsie has taken her game to another level this year with a self-induced and punishing fitness regimen that has seen her riding more tackles and winning more 50/50 shoulder battles than ever before. She really is a credit to herself and her total commitment to being the best footballer she can be.

A game is never won at just one end of the pitch and our defensive unit was immense today winning nearly every duel with Skippy, Ava & Riss our domino CBs in imperious form. They were aided ably by fullbacks Theaya & Yvie who shut-down all comers in the opposition attack.

The team captain Annie is just Annie our Duracell bunny who just never stops running and fighting for her teammates and leads by example, we will have to get a tracker on her for a game to get some idea of the ground she covers but I can bet it will be awe inspiring just like our No8 Annie 💪

We know that we are never as good as we think we are when winning or as bad as we think when losing. An excellent 3 points won today and 15 goals scored, now we must go and win next week and push up and away from these teams.
