U15 Boys signed off a highly successful season with a superb 2-3 victory away against high-flying AEK, denting the title dreams of a second opponent in three days and vaulting themselves away from the relegation places.

Armed with the experience and buzz of a tremendous victory on Friday, the lads went out again with a new mind-set, certain they could better a top opponent vying for the championship and in the finals of both the League and Challenge Cup. If you believe, you can achieve and that’s exactly what they did.

With Marshall still injured, Crucefix continued between the sticks and looked like he’d been doing it for years, playing a faultless match for the second game running and highlighting what a talented player he is, having covered so well in so many diverse positions this season. In front of him Hones, Pop & Boshjaku continued their excellent collective play, confident on the ball and tough in the tackle. Hones in particular has regained his very best form, also filling in effectively in midfield as the game wore on. Manning returned from holiday and played to a very high level given the lack of recent match play and training, typical of the solid season he has had.

Further forward, Silva and Green continued to impress in midfield with Montgomery doing the same holding behind them. McGuinness, Song and Makamian worked the energy sapping wings diligently while Fan, Da Silva and Ifeacho rotated effectively up front.

After a leggy start due to Friday’s exertions, the boys began to play their football and naturally started to exert influence as a result. Montgomery took possession of a clearance to stride forward and unleash an earth-shattering shot that forced the ball to glow red-hot as it flew over the home keeper and into his net! Now the Wood were purring and Da Silva made it 0-2 with a stinging drive that bust the net just after it had been patched up!

Always a threat, AEK had genuine pace and quality in their ranks and pulled one back with a fine volleyed finish but, the Wood went into the break 1-2 to the good.

The second half saw the Wood focus more on their football and there were many excellent passages of play as they moved the ball around with confidence. Ifeacho saw one smart effort from a Boshjaku free kick fly narrowly wide before Da Silva picked up possession in his own half from an excellent Wood counter. This human bag of tricks ran with the ball, dropping his shoulder here, faking to pass there and roasted the entire opposition defence before slotting past the keeper to make it 1-3! It really was a goal for the ages and saw him reach 10 goals in just 8 games since joining the club; a genuinely incredible effort from a hugely talented footballer.

AEK pulled one back near the end but, the boys have learnt not to collapse after such events and just managed the game out, despite the clock running on and on and on! Pop and Fan played particularly brilliant matches and shared MoM, but, it was another first class squad effort where every player played their part, all pulling in the same direction and doing whatever was necessary to secure the collective reward.

After the game, manager Makamian barely had time to sort out his make-up before Sky Sports were demanding a post match interview. After powdering his nose and combing his hair to perfection, he said, “The stars aligned this season as the Red division secured many of the best teams and players in local grassroots football. A privilege to play in it and through the hard times and the good, our players have learnt massively about themselves and each other, gaining priceless experience that is locked in and a part of their character for ever. We go forward now, setting new targets and focusing on fulfilling our destiny in the football world. Huge thanks go to our coaches - Manning and Montgomery, to our singular Club Secretary Mary, to our tremendously supportive parents and most importantly to our boys, who as the senior team at Borehamwood 2000 FC, have flown the flag for our club with pride and distinction all season, and in doing so, have made us all very proud indeed.”

As the season winds up for many teams, the U15 Red Division continues apace with many of its teams competing for cup honours. In the process, this has caused a backlog of league fixtures to determine the champions of what has been a very strong and competitive division. Even now, any of 5 teams can win this title and the division has already produced the Herts FA County Cup winners also, a side the Wood led 4-2 in normal time earlier this season. That day 3 conceded goals in the last 5 minutes of a 15 minute injury time period not seen before or after, showed the fine margins between success and failure at this level, with the ability to focus and concentrate as challenging as any technical shift upwards.

The Wood’s boys have shown an appetite to compete right from the start of this formidable challenge they’ve faced but, the second half of the season has seen a drop in performances as fatigue naturally set in from the constant demands required of them each week. Despite Song’s MoM performance, the boys went down 1-2 against Omonia White last Weds in a relegation 6 pointer and with just two away games to play against title contenders, the season seemed like it would end a little flat. However, an excellent training session mid-week with a renewed focus on composed, simple passing, and a deep-seated belief that they can compete with anyone, saw the lads head off to title leaders New Salamis, for an exciting Friday night match under the flood-lights.

Prior to the match, the Wood were rocked as stalwart keeper Marshall succumbed to a painful knee ligament injury that made playing an impossibility. Lots were drawn to replace him and the shortest straw went to Crucefix! In all truth, this founding member of the team and his family have Borehamwood 2000 running through them like Blackpool through a stick of rock and when the call was made, Crucefix volunteered to fill in for the greater cause, giving a huge boost to the side and being totally typical of the selfless nature of this Wood legend! With Marshall very commendably making the long journey over to provide expert support and warm-up, the Wood were back on an even keel, the team ethic as vibrant as ever.

The whistle for kick off blew and it was game on, with the Wood flying out the blocks like Linford Christie! A back three of Hones, Boshjaku and Pop were totally focused, attacking the ball before it bounced, pushing up high and sending their clearances afar. They were also composed on the ball, feeding it into the midfield with far greater consistency and accuracy. In front of them and protecting, Montgomery was producing trademark quality on the ball whilst also performing his defensive duties to a high standard, while Silva and Green completed the centre midfield triangle, exuding quality, cardio and tackling. Song, McGuinness and Makamian rotated on the wings very effectively providing an increased threat going forward but, as importantly, all having the fitness and drive to track back. Up front, Fan, Da Silva and Ifeacho shared attacking duties and were like a rash on the New Salamis defence, starting a fantastic press that this Wood team compete to the very highest standards.

Midway through the first half, the impressive Fan produced a sublime through ball that deadly sharp-shooter Da Silva latched on to. Having previously forced a quality save from the home keeper, this time he dispatched his shot into the bottom right corner for an incredible 8^th goal in 7 matches to send the massed ranks of Wood fans delirious with joy! With a really solid performance for the rest of the half, the boys went in one up.

Second half saw the same excellent play continue with the 13 players rotating to keep energy levels and application high, providing the platform for a goal of the season contender shortly after. Wonderfully composed play from Crucefix and Hones at the back saw the ball reach Fan, who shimmied before producing a top quality pass for Silva to streak through from the left and send his low strike flying past the opposition keeper! It really was a stunning team goal and the Wood surged forward for more! Green released Song with a stunning, spinning, outside of the foot pass; Song’s shot was blocked but, he reacted fast to whip a beautiful ball across the face of goal, just evading the on-rushing Wood strikers. Ifeacho was giving nightmares to the New Salamis defence, moving the ball much faster than in previous weeks and had several excellent efforts narrowly wide as a result, while Da Silva was chopped down in the box for what seemed a certain penalty only for the ref to refuse it.

New Salamis were a constant threat but, inspired and composed Wood defending from the entire side kept the opposition at bay until a corner was headed home late on. However, this caused barely a ripple within the team who kept focus and comfortably saw out the rest of the game for a tremendous away victory. MoM went to Crucefix who was absolutely outstanding all game and stood up to be counted when his team needed him most. These valuable points see the boys leap up the table and have a big bearing on the title race too but, most importantly, the Wood’s mojo is back and we go again Sunday, and can’t wait for it!

In a breathtaking showdown marking the culmination of the season, the mighty Borehamwood 2000 clashed swords with the formidable Hitchin Belles on their own turf. Led by the indomitable Captain Emilia, the stage was set for an epic battle.

Right from the kick-off, it was evident that this was going to be a match to remember. The first quarter raced by in a blur of lightning-fast action, with Olivia showcasing her prowess between the posts, pulling off two magnificent saves in the opening minutes. Surging forwards, Daisy's shot narrowly missed its mark, but it was Elsie who broke the deadlock with a thunderous strike that sent the ball ricocheting off the post and into the net.

The second quarter saw the defence led by Gracie standing firm, frustrating the Hitchin attackers at every turn. It was now time for super cool Sienna to steady the ship and join the defensive ranks making light work of Hitchin’s attempts at goal. Emily stepped up to the challenge of goalkeeping duties admirably, making well timed runs off her line to close down gaps with urgency. Meanwhile, Juniper's solo runs through the midfield were a sight to behold. Emilia proved that she is not only brilliant at dribbling the ball, she is a clinical finisher as well with a shot from outside the box to double the Wood’s goal tally. Like all professional strikers, Ruby used her striker's instinct, adding a third goal with a remarkably well placed shot, leaving the Hitchin defence reeling.

As the game entered its third quarter, Elsie and Daisy demonstrated their telepathic understanding with seamless passing, creating chances aplenty. Daisy's effort rattled the crossbar, but the team's spirit remained unbroken. Gracie, now deployed as a centre forward, kept the pressure on the opposition, showcasing her versatility and confidence.

Entering the final quarter, of not only this game, but the season, Borehamwood played with the same energy as they had in the first. Juniper continued to dominate the midfield, adding two more goals to her name in quick succession. Her first a long range rocket of a shot, whilst her second was a brilliant reactive strike. However, despite Borehamwood's dominance, Hitchin did not make it easy for us, forcing both Sienna and Emily to make vital game changing tackles which prevented the game from slipping away. Ruby's relentless darting runs kept the Hitchin defence on their toes and in a spin, earning her the well-deserved title of Player of the Match. And it was Daisy who put the icing on the cake with a sensational strike, securing Borehamwood's 6th and final goal of the game.

As the final whistle blew, the Borehamwood fans erupted in cheers. It was a thriller to end the season, with every player giving their all on the pitch. The growth in confidence and skill displayed by the team throughout this season is nothing short of remarkable. With great spirit, teamwork, and big smiles all around, Borehamwood had truly capped off a brilliant season in style.

With a highly successful season completed, the club pays tribute to the tremendously devoted and talented staff that have run our U9 Girls to the very highest standards in their debut season. Outstanding female role models have been a plenty with Susie, Lia, Katie & Katy completing a totally awesome job, while pulling it all together and fitting seamlessly into juniors’ football management, Manager Gareth has been an imperious and hugely popular teacher. Well done to all of them and to all of our fab girls who have made the club so proud every step of a simply wonderful 23/24 season!

During midweek, our U13 Boys completed their season at home to Whetstone in the League. They worked hard as they have all season but, the opposition scored some quality goals to run out winners on the day. Though the team won't be going forward next season, our staff - Frank, Greg and Grant - have worked wonders with the boys, who have gained confidence and improved technical ability which they will now put to good use in the next stage of their football development. They will get the send off they deserve at Presentation Day but, for now, we wish them all the very best of luck.

U13 Girls wrapped up their season too, travelling the short distance to our close rivals Garston Ladies Wildcats, in the return fixture of last week’s very close match, where Garston somehow came away 3-4 winners.

The game started as the last one had finished with the Wood’s attack on the front foot; Gabby U causing mayhem in the Wildcats’ defence with her pace and dribbling skills. The excellent Wildcats’ keeper had to be on her best form today to keep Gabby at bay!

Gabz G and Karadonna were tasked with doubling up against the opposition’s speedy wingers which they both did with aplomb and they closed down that avenue of attack and were ably aided by skipper Amie and Annie in the midfield engine room, who patrolled and shut down all-comers. Gabz and Kara got through a ton of work attacking the Wildcats and defending up their flanks; both were having a real say in the flow of the game with their hard work and skill.

Defensive stalwarts Abi , Ava & Theaya where coping admirably with the dangerous Wildcats’ attackers and the three of them started many, many of the Wood attacks today with their calm and composed football from the back. Emily in goal was having a very steady and controlled game and for the most part just had to keep on top of her concentration.

The front 3 kept knocking at Wildcats door and it seemed like it would take something special to knock it down. Up stepped Karadonna, who recovered the ball 30+ yards from goal just off the right wing, looked up and unleashed a driven, clipped shot over the flailing keeper’s hands and into the net for a well deserved goal: 0-1to the Wood and the lead! Hazel entered the fray with her high energy play and her boundless, infectious energy and running. Half time came and the Wood came in 1 up and deservedly so.

The second half started and the Wildcats came out the blocks quickly and with a new found frenzy to win the ball! They found a route to the equaliser from an attack where we just couldn’t clear our lines: 1-1 . The game was more even now with the opposition pressing harder to win the ball back and doing so on more than a few occasions. Wildcats’ speedy winger was causing issues down the  right wing and the second Garston goal was to come from this for 2-1 to the home team.

We could not believe this was happening again to this fine young team who were dominating possession and had by far the lion’s share of opportunities on goal. Gabby U and Gabz G were creating many chances but luck just didn’t seem to be with them today. Garston kept pushing at the other end and they managed to get a 3rd goal  caused more by our own actions than Garston’s.

Many, many teams would collapse and hide but not this fine group of young women and Gabby U  picked up the mantle and broke free from the Garston defenders the keeper came out to meet her and Gabby slotted the ball low past the keeper for an excellent solo effort and a 3-2 scoreline.

This gave our girls even more energy and fire and they pushed and fought harder, they penned the Wildcats back and got a corner from a long range effort by Skipper Amie. Up stepped Ava in the box, rising like the proverbial salmon to meet Hazel’s pin point corner and power the ball past the Garston keeper for 3-3!

There was 4 and a half mins left and the odd chance came and went but we could not quite get the winner we needed to guarantee D1 football next year. POM went to Gabz G today who had a game for the ages with tireless work up and down the pitch providing passes to release Gabby U, stinging shots and dazzling runs reminiscent of prime Messi.

It’s a huge thank you to  all the girls and parents from our staff - Dave, Rich & Joe - for what has been a tough baptism to D1 football; the luck definitely hasn’t been with the team with players leaving, season ending injuries, illness and other stuff going on in the background. Through all this our amazing girls have kept smiling, laughing, caring for each other and passing that ball along the deck. We come again next year looking different but we will be bigger, stronger, wiser and more streetwise.

What a riveting clash we witnessed today at the King James Academy fortress as Borehamwood U9s took on the formidable Royston Town! It was a spectacle of youthful exuberance, skill, and unwavering determination that had spectators on the edge of their seats from start to finish.

Led by the inspirational Polly, Borehamwood came out of the gates firing on all cylinders. Goalkeeper Olivia showcased her prowess with a brilliant save early on, setting the tone for what would be a thrilling encounter. Daisy, with her lightning-quick reflexes, narrowly missed with two rapid-fire shots, while Elsie's thunderous long shot left the Royston defence scrambling. But it wasn't just the attackers who shone; Captain Polly's tenacity in defence was unmatched, as she threw herself into bone-crunching tackles with relentless determination.

As the game progressed into the second quarter, Ruby mesmerized the crowd with her sublime solo runs, while Tippi kept the Royston goalkeeper on their toes with her relentless pursuit of goal-scoring opportunities. And let's not forget the defensive stalwart, Sienna, whose vital clearances were a testament to her unyielding commitment to protecting the Borehamwood goal.

Daisy and Elsie formed a dynamic partnership, constantly feeding off each other's energy and creating scoring opportunities with their telepathic understanding. It was Elsie who broke the deadlock with a clinical finish off Daisy's pinpoint cross, sending the Borehamwood faithful into raptures.

As the game reached its halfway point, Emilia injected a burst of speed and creativity into the strike force, dazzling the Royston defence with her lightning-quick turns and fearless runs. It was now Daisy's turn to find the back of the net, courtesy of yet another exquisite cross from Elsie, the stadium erupted in celebration, echoing the legendary partnerships of Waddle and Hoddle!

Gracie showcased her talents in both goal and midfield. In goal she showed off her cat like reflexes, and really shone in midfield with her blistering runs down the right wing sending the away fans into a frenzy. Olivia was finding her rhythm making well timed challenges and pulling off acrobatic saves reminiscent of a gold medalist gymnast. Borehamwood continued to press forward with relentless determination, this time with Juniper taking on attacking duties narrowly missing the target with a ferocious shot, however it was Daisy who fired home her 2nd goal of the game as a result of a brilliant pass from Juniper. With the final moments drawing near, the magnificent trio, Tippi, Ruby and Emilia still hungry for goals kept the pressure on Royston, and on any other day would have scored. They supported each other with unwavering teamwork, showcasing the camaraderie that defines this remarkable team.

Borehamwood's spirit remained unbreakable as the match came to an end, a testament to their resilience and never-say-die attitude. They may have faced a gruelling encounter, but learnt much and will return stronger and more determined than ever before. Today's match was a testament to the indomitable spirit these magnificent girls have, where every player gave their all until the final whistle.

The Wood's U14 Boys, U13 Girls and U9 Girls all rested this weekend but, our U13 & U15 Boys played league matches looking for valuavle points to move them away from the bottom of their respective divisions.

U13 Boys had a good go but, were unable to secure the win, however, Hartslief did smash home his first of the season to the delight of the watching crowd!

U15 Boys meanwhile, played out one of their worst performances in memory with a soulless effort against New Salamis, deservedly losing the game 0-3. Frankly, the effort levels from so many of the players were hugely disappointing and with further crazy mistakes when defending, the boys continue to shoot themselves in the foot, simultaneously stripping the team of confidence and feeding the opposition in equal measure.

Goals have dried up for the team and Da Silva continues to be the Wood's main threat in the opposition box, denied today only by the linesman's flag and the left hand post; at times his play was exceptional and just a pleasure to behold.

Boshjaku upped his own performance considerably and enjoyed an excellent match at centre half, dominating in the air with quality distribution on the deck too. Crucefix, in the holding role, got stuck in from the off and also enjoyed a very good game indeed. Both boys shared MoM.

The team is now in a relegation dog-fight and in the coming weeks we'll discover what they are really made of and whether they care enough and are willing to work hard enough to gain the points they need to stay up?

After going out the Challenge and League Cup quarter finals recently, our U15 Boys had a final chance for cup glory this season away to Whetstone Tigers in the Spring Cup, knowing either a win or draw would see them make the semi-final of this competition.

In an extraordinary intervention, the home ref refused to allow linesman for the match advising he didn’t need them as he could see just as well from his position in the centre of the pitch! However, the boys were not phased by this or the concession of a goal within 30 seconds of kick off after an attempted clearance fell to a Whetstone striker to sweep into the net from close range. Instead, they rolled up their sleeves and worked hard for each other, threatening Whetstone on the break and trying to stop the concession of a second goal. A strong penalty shout on Green was turned down by the ref, with other Wood efforts, lacking a little power, saved by the home keeper. In a blow to their ambitions, however, and with half time imminent, Whetstone’s big midfielder jumped highest to put them two up.

Second half saw the Wood rally and Marshall had very little to do in goal as wave after wave of Wood attacks broke on the Whetstone defence. Two strong shouts for handball were turned down by the ref before he deemed Boshjaku’s header had not crossed the line. The Wood pushed on regardless and the outstanding Da Silva pulled one back with a simply sublime piece of individual skill, flicking the ball over his marker before squeezing home at the near post.

The game was truly on but, try as they might, the Wood could not score the goal they needed to progress. Chance after chance came and went while the excellent Manning and Pop at the back kept Whetstone from countering. Da Silva fired just over late on before the match ended 2-1; the club’s last chance of silverware this season gone.

C’est la vie, but, all in all, the boys performed really well as conceding so early was a lift to our opponents and a blow to our own momentum. However, every mistake made is an opportunity to learn, and with application and concentration difficult moments are surmounted and consistency is gained thereafter. Two examples of just this are Silva and Marshall, who shared MoM today. After dropping his levels last week, Silva enjoyed a tremendous game showcasing all his immense football talents with the added bite he now has in the tackle. Meanwhile, Marshall, conceding efforts of late that he is well capable of saving, played the perfect match on a big occasion, confidently claiming crosses and displaying decision making of the highest order; in doing so, showing the huge potential he has to come.

The squad marches on with six big league games to come and many points to be won in the battle to retain their Red division status! First though, the boys can rest and enjoy Easter, knowing their manager is very proud of each and every one of them; our time will come.

Our U14 Boys moved up to second place in the Blue division with a solid performance against Hinton at Pursley after the game was switched.

Chen and Sheppard were in fine form scoring one goal apiece while Abisa was a model of consistency at the back, rightfully securing the MoM award. Next up are AFC Southgate away where the squad will be gunning for maximum points again!

Our U13 Boys played a top APB Wingate Raptors side at Pursley, but, with only 10 players available were really up against it. They really did give it everything but, the Raptors proved too strong on this occasion. Huge credit goes to the players and staff for having a right go.

On a sun-kissed and blustery day, our U9 Girls took to the pitch against Evergreen in a match brimming with excitement and Easter cheer. Led by the indomitable Captain Elsie, alongside her talented teammates Daisy, Juniper, Amber, Gracie, Olivia, Emilia, and Ruby, the stage was set for an unforgettable showdown.

Right from the kick-off, the pace was electric, with Juniper launching an early attack that narrowly missed its mark, setting the tone for an end-to-end battle. The ever-cool-headed Amber showcased her defensive prowess, making vital clearances and keeping the opposition at bay.

However, it was Captain Elsie who truly stole the show, unleashing a flurry of goals that left Evergreen shell-shocked. With two blistering shots finding the back of the net, Elsie's tally quickly climbed to an impressive four goals, sending waves of excitement through the Borehamwood supporters.

Emilia dazzled with her footwork, weaving through the midfield and delivering crunching tackles, while the introduction of Ruby and Daisy injected fresh energy into the game. Daisy’s pinpoint crosses emulated Beckham-esque precision, setting up opportunities for her teammates to shine.

As the match progressed into the third quarter, Evergreen refused to back down. Gracie, now in the thick of the action, showcased her goalkeeping prowess, while Amber provided vital support with her relentless tracking back.

The physicality of the game only fuelled the Wood’s determination, with Ruby making one of her finest solo runs taking on three Evergreen players and setting up Juniper to power home her second goal. The final quarter saw the team maintain their energy levels, with Oliver stepping up admirably in goalkeeping duties, making cat like, heroic saves and using her footballing brain to read Evergreen’s play of attack. Gracie demonstrating her versatility outfield, and proved that she is not only brilliant with her hands, but a skilful player with her feet.

Daisy’s accurate passes continued to carve open opportunities, while Emilia left Evergreen defenders in a spin with her mesmerising footwork. Juniper’s hat-trick goal ricocheted off the post, but it was Captain Elsie who emerged as the undisputed hero of the match, her sixth goal securing her a well-deserved Player of the Match accolade and sealing victory for Borehamwood. As the final whistle blew, the pitch was alive with the sights and sounds of victory, showcasing the incredible team spirit, unselfish play, and the unwavering grit of this formidable unit!

With big smiles all around, the team heads into the Easter break with hearts full of joy and memories to cherish, proving that with determination and teamwork, anything is possible.

A very depleted U13 girls travelled away this morning to table topping Hertford town, down to our last eight fit outfield players and our two excellent GKs, a small miracle was needed to get something from the trip. With two of the eight - Skipper Amie and striker Hazel - carrying knocks coming into the game the girls were up against it.

Hertford started quickly and had our defence under early pressure with our rock Abi throwing herself into last ditch tackles with Ava and Theaya equally as determined and steadfast. Emily the starting GK was busy too as was the midfield of Annie, Amie, Karadonna & Hazel. The Hertford pressure was telling though and with fast breaks from midfield they isolated our defence, and with numbers played through us to take the lead 1-0.

Our girls are made of stern stuff and full of the bulldog spirit and they came fighting back with No9 Gabby causing mayhem with her pace and direct running, Hertford sometimes having to put 2 players on her. It was end to end stuff and the girls clawed back the early Hertford dominance to come in one down at half time and with a definite foothold in the game.

Hertford boasted a full compliment of 15 players and had the luxury of regularly changing their line-up to bring on fresh legs, and it must be said that with every change Hertford made their skill and tenacity levels never dropped. Gabby was back on for Imani who made only her second tentative appearance of the season after serious injury at the end of the first half. Gabby made the Hertford keeper pull of an amazing stop after beating two players and unleashing a drive at goal that Alessia Russo would have been proud of!

The next goal was key and the Hertford girls managed to beat our amazing GK Riss with a low drive that somehow squirmed through us today. The team was tiring now both physically and emotionally and with no respite in sight they had to just bite down on their gumshields, roll their sleeves up and fight for every blade of grass which they did to the very best that their tired bodies would let them today. Hertford scored a 3rd after a great diving save from Riss, that we couldn’t clear away.

Emily came back into the fray in goal after clearing her head from a first half blow and she made two great saves from marauding Hertford attacks with Abi again making last ditch tackles as she fought for her team. Ava took a knock to the ankle blocking up the right side of defence and Theaya kept the door shut down our left. Annie was running her socks off helping her partner Amie out who was by now operating on one leg but still didn’t give up the fight. Kara, Hazel and Gabby all tried to get us up the pitch and stay there and drew another fine save from the Hertford GK after what looked like a definite goal.

The game was to take a painful twist for the team as Hertford scored a fourth of the day with a rasping drive from a free kick outside the area. The day finished 4-0 to the home team but our girls never once waved the white flag; exhausted and bruised they push onwards to the next battle still with fire in their bellies and hearts full of pride. We as coaches are so proud of this group of young women who keep on performing wonders in the face of no end of problems that this season has thrown at them!

U15 Boys faced Rap Aid FC in the Spring Cup on a wet and muddy surface at Pursley. Despite playing in the 3^rd division this term, the opposition possessed top quality attackers, with searing pace the equal of any Red division player the Wood has faced this season. The boys were in for a battle if they were to secure the win and knew it.

Getting to the ball first was of paramount importance but, a disastrous start saw the Wood caught in the headlights as Rap Aid flew forward down the flanks, creating chance after chance. After just a couple of minutes, a cheap free kick was conceded and the resultant shot, though hit well, found the Wood net too easily; deeper positioning and quicker reactions the solution to saving such attempts in the future. Rap Aid went on to hit the crossbar and then forced Marshall to make an excellent diving save, with Hones & Pop both clearing other efforts superbly off the line.

The Wood fought back and started attacking the weaker defensive side of the opposition and Da Silva, no longer cup tied, raced on to an excellent through ball from Ifeacho, to finish in style and level the match. Green whipped an excellent ball into the box that Fan narrowly headed on to the post, while Makamian saw his effort hit the crossbar.

Second half saw Ifeacho, playing superbly in a deeper midfield role, exert more and more influence on the match, as was Fan, enjoying one of his best Wood performances to date at right midfield. Both players were instrumental in driving the Wood forward as were Green and Da Silva, working prodigiously up front together. Crucefix was at it throughout too and constantly mopping up the ball when Rap Aid broke.

Da Silva was pulled down in the box but, the Wood were unable to dispatch the resulting penalty. However, Da Silva, a constant menace, was quickest to react in the box shortly after, firing home to put the Wood in front. Green had numerous chances to score the goal his lung busting performance deserved but, was unable to beat the away keeper on this occasion though it was not for want of trying. However, a late, great Wood move sliced through the away defence and Da Silva capped a top level performance with a finish of true equanimity, sealing his hat-trick and making it 5 goals in 2 matches for him since joining the club.

The match ended 3-1 and the Wood worked very hard to secure a win that could, if they remain unbeaten against Whetstone next week, see them make the semi-final of this competition. More importantly, however, was that several players were able to take on the responsibility of raising their games considerably to secure the points, which was very good to see indeed and is key to the team's future progression. Of these, MoM was shared by Da Silva for his attacking quality and also for Pop who gave a tremendous defensive display against a very dangerous attacking side.

Our U13 girls were due to play their close friends and rivals St Albans City Lionesses at home but, another water-logged pitch put paid to that. So, faced with another wash-out weekend, the football mad dads searched high and low for an alternative with Pete Jeffery pulling a rabbit out the hat and sourcing an astro at the football pad on Barnet Lane!

This was a game the Wood needed points from to help with our league position; having played the Lionesses before this season in a game we were very unfortunate to be on the wrong end of a 3-2 loss, we knew it would be tough.

The Wood squad is stretched almost to breaking point, being down to 11 fully fit players, with Imani making her long awaited return as our 12th woman. Her return to football from a very bad injury earlier in the season is a wonderful boost for the team and a huge credit to Imani’s determination and positivity. Quite understandably and sensibly, as Imani searches for match fitness and game rhythm, small cameo appearances are what the doctor’s ordered for the time being. We have also recently lost star winger Elsinho to a perforated appendix and new signing Amy, who was looking like a real rock at CB, is also out with a fractured collar bone; our thoughts are with both girls as they begin their recoveries. Hazel was unable to make the late KO so the magnificent 12 were left to fight for the badge and each other with Emily & Riss our 2 GKs, a back 4 of Abi, Ava, Pola & Theaya, a midfield with Skipper Amie, Annie, Gabz, Kara & Imani, and our lone forward Gabby.

The game started and the Wood dominated possession with our quick 2 touch football; St Albans couldn’t get near our girls and we were dominating in the St Albans half. Shot after shot was taken and it wasn’t going to be long before we took the lead, Gabby duly obliging when beating her two  markers for speed and still having the skill to slot home past the excellent Lionesses keeper: 1-0 to the Wood.

We took the lead in our last game and this tenacious Lionesses side came back to win and again they showed their class by scoring an equaliser with quick thinking whilst the Wood switched off. St Albans were now in the ascendancy and having the lion’s share of chances; a mix up in defence gifted the away team the lead and the half finished 1-2 to St Albans.

Our girls came in annoyed as they knew they were the better team for long periods; we reminded them of what they did to gain the lead, quick  2 touch play, playing the way you’re facing and supporting the player with the ball, and the girls went out for the second half wanting to fight for everything and they did.

Gabz was causing mayhem with her jinking runs with the ball and made the keeper make 2 fantastic saves but she couldn’t keep her out all day! Our high press was bearing fruit and Gabz pounced on a loose pass, beat the covering defender and slotted calmly past the keeper for a deserved equaliser: 2-2.

Kara had a snap shot and hit the bar, Pola had a rasper hit the angle of bar and post, Gabby was knocking at the door but somehow St Albans managed to keep us out. This was definitely a step in the right direction and the football on show at times was excellent from our young team! Off to Hertford we go next week!

POM today was Riss who made 2 fantastic goal stopping saves in this pulsating encounter.

Our U9 Girls are going from strength to strength and faced a strong outfit from Welwyn Pegasus away from home. This was a spectacle to behold, played out on a sunny day that seemed to radiate with the promise of excitement and glory. With smiles adorning the faces of players and supporters alike, the Wood brought their A-game, igniting the field with a performance that left no doubt as to their determination and skill.

Led by the formidable Sienna, who wore the captain's armband with pride and doubled as a rock-solid defender, Borehamwood's lineup was a force to be reckoned with. Between the goalposts, Emily showcased her acrobatic prowess, diving from left to right with lightning speed to deny Welwyn Pegasus any chance of breaching their defences.

In defense, Elsie proved to be an immovable force, thwarting Welwyn's advances with her unstoppable determination. Meanwhile, Amber displayed versatility like no other, seamlessly transitioning from defense to attack and covering every blade of grass with her tireless running. Emilia's lightning-fast feet surged forward with purpose, leaving Welwyn's defence scrambling to keep up.

But it wasn't just the defensive line that shone for Borehamwood. In midfield, Maisie controlled the center of the pitch with finesse, orchestrating plays and dictating the tempo of the game. On the wings, Juniper unleashed blistering runs that left Welwyn's defenders in her wake, while up front, Ruby showcased her skills, with the ball seemingly glued to her feet.

The first breakthrough came from Ruby, who after being denied by several close attempts, finally found the back of the net with a precision strike. Amber set the tone early on with brilliant solo runs, while Elsie unleashed a powerful long shot that sent the crowd into a frenzy.

As the game wore on, Borehamwood's dominance only grew. Juniper added to the tally with an accurate first-time shot, showcasing her clinical finishing. Welwyn Pegasus threatened, but Emily stood tall, making crucial saves to keep her team's lead intact. Leah, undeterred by the physicality of the opposition, adapted seamlessly to different positions, while Maisie came agonizingly close to adding her name to the scoresheet on multiple occasions.

However, it was Elsie who sealed the deal for Borehamwood, capitalizing on brilliant team play to score their third goal and put the game beyond doubt. Throughout the match, Sienna's cool-headed leadership controlled the defence, ensuring the Wood remained resolute until the final whistle.

In the end, it was a performance that was as well-deserved as it was hard-fought. Borehamwood 2000 showcased not only their individual talent but also their unwavering teamwork and resilience. As they basked in the adulation of their supporters, they knew that they had not just played a great match, but also won hearts and minds with their inspiring performance. The girls are growing in confidence, determination and skill every time they lace up a pair of boots!

U15 Boys faced AEK away in the Challenge Cup quarter final far away in Winchmore Hill. The pitch was black with mud, the grass long enough to cover a small elephant or two and with the League failing to supply a neutral referee for the second quarter final running, the boys were certainly up against it.

However, they rolled their sleeves up and got down to business. Led by Hones from the back, they got to the ball first regularly and creating many shooting opportunities in the opening stanzas: Fan, Silva, Ifeacho, Montgomery and Green all had efforts on goal but, none quite had the requisite quality to beat the assured home keeper. Meanwhile, hesitant play from a Wood goal kick led to a period of play that ended with AEK delivering a quality shot that sailed frustratingly into the net.

The Wood fought back and built up another head of steam and seemed certain to have won a penalty when Fan was chopped down in the box, but, the home ref inexplicably ignored this and then compounded his decision by sin-binning Fan for dissent. In one fell swoop the team went from a match equalling penalty to playing with 10 men and such is life when home refs officiate big matches. In any case, the boys worked really hard to keep parity and ended the half no worse off.

The second half was nip and tuck and the Wood piled on again in search of an equaliser, however, no excuses could be offered as AEK doubled their advantage through shabby Wood play; a poor pass out the back under no pressure and a weak shot that really should have been stopped. Now chasing the game, the boys could’ve thrown in the towel but, didn’t and kept at it producing a strong finish with the lively Green denied only by a top drawer save. Manning was enjoying a terrific half at the back while Crucefix also impressed in the holding role.

Unfortunately, yet another long range effort hit home and the Wood trudged off 3-0 losers, giving so much effort and getting absolutely nothing for it. This is a familiar story for the boys as they’ve been catapulted up the divisions by a management team that unequivocally believes they have what it takes to mix it with the best. As that unshakeable faith is fully believed and absorbed by the boys themselves, quality will improve and mistakes will be eradicated and the team will get the rewards their hard work deserves. In addition, players will be able to take on the responsibility to emerge as genuine match-winners and though that has yet to happen in the big games this season thus far, today Silva enjoyed an excellent game gliding over a mud-bath pitch at times, but, also tackling with an aggressive snap that made him a comfortable MoM.

U13 Boys had a tough time away at London Colney and fell to a 10-0 reverse, while our U14 Boys enjoyed a terrific outing against Ally Pally West, running out 4-0 winners in the league, with the boys playing really well to specific tactics.

The first goal was a great header down from Smith to the overlapping Mill who finished well to make it 1-0. The very impressive (and man of the match) Sutherland was linking up beautifully with Sheppard all day. This link up produced a great cross from Sutherland to find Smith in the box; he went round one and drilled low to make it 2-0. With the centre back partnership of Adom and Joyce solid throughout, the half ended at this score.

Second half saw changes made but the boys carried on playing the football, with captain Gardiner keeping the team moving the ball through the middle of the park. The 3rd goal was a great cross/shot that sailed all the way into the back post from Staszewski to put the game to bed. Parratt then picked up the ball and glided forward only for his 25 yard effort to sail agonisingly inches wide of the top corner.

The 4th and final goal was from a quality through ball from Staszewski who found the in-form Rocha, who Romarioesque toe punted the ball into the top corner from the edge of the box! A solid clean sheet and some excellent performances but the work down the right hand side saw Sutherland deservedly take the MoM award and get the Wood army back on winning ways!

Our U9 Girls put on a thrilling match against Evergreen in an electrifying encounter at Pursley that left spectators on the edge of their seats! From start to finish, it was a spectacle not to be missed, with both teams displaying incredible determination and skill.

From the get-go, it was clear that Borehamwood meant business. Led by the indomitable Captain Leah, they took the game to Evergreen with relentless attacks and solid defence. Gracie, guarding the goal with finesse, showcased her prowess with some breathtaking saves, keeping her team in the game, however it was Elsie who opened up the scoring with a brilliantly well taken shot!

Our midfield maestro, Daisy, was a force to be reckoned with, orchestrating plays and finding space effortlessly. While up front, Emilia proved to be a constant threat, rattling the post early on and keeping the Evergreen defence on their toes.

As the match progressed into the second quarter, Borehamwood's depth came to the fore with substitutes Juniper, Sienna, and Olivia seamlessly slotting into the lineup. Daisy continued her dominance, finding the back of the net with a clinical finish, while Juniper showcased her attacking flair with a super slick goal.

Quarter after quarter, the action intensified, with both teams leaving everything on the pitch. Sienna's defensive prowess was on full display, thwarting Evergreen's advances with crucial clearances and timely tackles. Meanwhile, Elsie's precision passing and Olivia's safe hands kept Borehamwood's defence rock solid.

In the final stretch, Gracie and Olivia shared goalkeeping duties, both pulling off remarkable save after remarkable save, while Ruby surged forward with purpose, driving her team towards victory. When the moment of truth arrived, Captain Leah rose to the occasion, slotting home a crucial goal before Daisy put the cherry on the cake with a trademark thunderous strike.

Beyond the goals and the saves, what truly stood out was the camaraderie and team spirit exhibited by Borehamwood. Led by their inspirational captain, they fought as one unit, supporting each other every step of the way.

Congratulations to Daisy for a stellar performance, earning her the well-deserved Player of the Match accolade, and hats off to Juniper from Evergreen for her outstanding contribution on the day. In the end, it was a memorable victory for the Wood and a testament to their talent, teamwork, and unwavering determination. Here's to many more vintage days like this in the seasons to come!

Our U9 Girls, U14 Boys and U15 Boys all fell to the rain this weekend; when will it stop!

However, our U13 Boys did play and returned to Enfield to face New Salamis for the second week running, this time in the league.

The boys were a little nervous in the beginning and went 1-0 one down early, but, their response was tremendous, and 10 mins later they equalised. Kingham-Patrick, playing in his preferred forward position, laid a fine pass into the path of the onrushing Gopinath who made no mistake, burying the ball home in style. Five minutes later, Adom slalomed past two defenders before playing in Kingham-Patrick, who scored with a sumptuous first time shot.

The second half saw the Wood's defensive unit of keeper Lehouimel, and a back four of MoM Kurti, Patel, Hartslief and Ciochina keep New Salamis out with relative ease and the boys went 1-3 up after excellent work from Ellams, who slotted in Gopintah to secure his brace and 18^th goal of an outstanding individual season.

New Salamis scored a late consolation goal but, the boys managed the remainder of the match and secured a really well deserved victory. With five league matches to play, the boys will be looking to build on this performance and propel themselves up the table!

Our U13 girls played on astro and had a tough away trip to what has been the best team in the County for many a season in St Albans City Yellows. Our previous meeting was a very close affair ending in a 3-2 loss but with our girls coming away feeling that they fully deserved to be playing D1 football. Today was no different and we expected a very tough test against a good football team and we were not disappointed.

With a few  changes positionally we tried to firm up our defence and midfield, and believe we did this and all the girls performed fantastically well. The first goal came from a St Albans corner that was allowed to travel unchallenged to our back post; a cute header back across goal put the home side 1 up.

The defence and midfield where coping well with St Albans tricky attacker and we where keeping them at arm’s length. Emily in goal was outstanding and made some excellent saves whenever she was called upon with Amy, PoM Abi, Pola & Ava in front of her all competing well and showing their skill and tenacity. This St Albans team is made up of real quality with girls training at Arsenal, Tottenham and Watford so they can hurt you very quickly if you switch off for just 1 second. Without really putting a foot wrong we found ourselves 2-0 down and scratching our heads.

Gabby, Elsinho and Gabz were creating chances up front, while Abs was making her barnstorming runs from a new position of RB, causing havoc in the Yellows lines and one of her rocket shots with her seldom used left peg shook the Yellow's bar! Hazel was on hand but a split second too late to get the tap in; the good thing for her and the team was that she was there to compete for it though.

Our midfield duo of Annie and skipper Amie had a tough day at the office today, they played against some top-quality performers but they held their own and kept coming and kept fighting and had many opportunities to show their own class and skill on the ball. The yellows 10 - Nell - deserves a mention as she was masterful today in midfield, she squirmed and shimmied and found half a yard on the edge of our box and sent an exquisite low drive into the bottom corner just beating Emily’s dive for 3-0 Yellows.

The score paints its own picture but was not a true or reflective one of the game unfolding in front of our eyes. The scoreline was very harsh on our team and to be three down wasn’t fair, but this is D1 football and half chances are taken. We hadn’t really put a foot wrong in defence or our keeper either; the girls knew this and took strength from the fact and kept fighting.

The Wood changed formation second half as we needed to play more in the Yellow's half, so we went to a 3-3-2 from a 3-4-1 formation and it really worked and helped us control large swathes of the second half. A controversial disallowed goal from the ref - when Gabby clearly beat the keeper and got the ball over the line - was a cruel way to start the half. The girls kept coming though with shots from Pola, Abi & Amie testing the home keeper.

Our high press also put pressure on the home team and made them play long for our strong defenders to win the ball back and start another attack.

Our 1st goal would come from great work on the left from Gabz who had an outstanding 2nd half in midfield; she worked the space with great support from Pola and dinked a sublimely weighted cross to the middle of the goal where Gabby was waiting to tap in what looks a simple finish but was made with great skill.

Our second goal came from a long range drive from Annie who was getting stronger and stronger in midfield the longer the match went on. A cross from her hard running twin - Elsinho - & Annie unleashed the Kraken and was rewarded with a screamer for her efforts that left the excellent home keeper rooted to the spot and reaching for air.

3-2, game on and the girls knew they could get something from this game and rightly pushed hard for an equaliser. Kara was working tirelessly to get crosses into the box with Hazel hunting defenders down, Ava backing Kara up in their pressing down the right flank looking for the half yard needed to get a shot or cross off. Luck wasn’t on our side today though and the Yellows got their fourth and there was nothing Riss could do to stop a good finish from the dangerous opposition striker. A 4-2 loss but a fantastic game of football played in front of a large crowd.

Our U13 Boys played New Salamis away in the Spring Plate, with a brimming full squad ready for action.

Following a fine start, the Wood took the lead on 20 minutes when a splendid mazy run from Gopinath ended with MoM O’ Rourke firing home with consumate ease!

The boys were well on top now, driven on in midfield by Adom and Joyce, and took a  0-2 lead following more good play between Gopinath and O’ Rourke; the latter swivelling his marker and slotting home as the away support went ballistic!

Second half didn’t start quite so well as the home team scored two quick goals but, the boys never let their heads drop and quality saves from Florin kept things level, despite an awful challenge on Ward who had been having a very good game.

All in all, it was a very sound away performance from the players and staff, and with the same opponents next week again, anticipation is high.

What a delightful afternoon of football it was as our U9's hosted Hemel Aces Snow Leopards in a thrilling encounter! The sun was shining bright, matching the radiant spirits of both teams and their enthusiastic supporters.

Coach Katie, on her farewell match before setting sail with the Navy, galvanised the team onto the pitch amidst cheers and applause. And what a send-off it was! From the get-go, Borehamwood showcased their prowess, dominating possession and pushing forward with relentless determination.

Captain Ruby led by example, orchestrating the midfield with finesse. Tippi kicked off the scoring frenzy, capitalizing on a rebound to give Borehamwood an early lead. Ruby herself came agonizingly close with a well-struck effort, while Elsie showcased her skills only to be thwarted by the Hemel goalie's heroics.

As the game progressed into the second quarter, Sienna stole the show with two impeccable goals, displaying pinpoint accuracy with her shots. Juniper joined the party with a dazzling solo run, adding to Borehamwood's tally. Not to be outdone, Elsie found the back of the net with a remarkable finish, leaving the crowd in awe.

Amber stood firm in defence, marking the opposition with precision and making crucial clearances when needed. Despite facing six Snow Leopards in the third quarter, Borehamwood maintained their composure, with Emily showcasing her goalkeeping prowess with a string of remarkable saves.

Polly took charge up front, narrowly missing the target with her strikes, while Sienna tried her luck with a long-range effort. In the final quarter, Juniper adapted brilliantly to a new position on the left, while Maisie's play making versatility saved the day on numerous occasions with her stellar defending and pinpoint accurate passing.

It was now Polly’s turn to add to the Borehamwood scoresheet, and what a cracker it was too, picking up the ball in the middle of the pitch and releasing a powerful right footed shot. Hemel were pushing forwards and had it not been for Gracie putting on goalkeeping masterclass, diving fearlessly to deny the opposition time and time again this could have been a very different result. The game was drawing to an end, however Elsie had other ideas and hungry for a second goal netting a remarkable goal just before full time.

As the final whistle blew, the cheers from the crowd echoed around the Pursley ground celebrating a well-deserved victory for Borehamwood. Ruby was rightfully awarded the player of the match for her tireless efforts covering every blade of grass and every muddy puddle, while Elsie received recognition as the opposition's player of the match for her outstanding performance.

It was a match filled with joy, camaraderie, and outstanding footballing talent—a fitting tribute to Coach Katie's tenure and a memory that will be cherished by all involved for years to come.

Our U13 girls played far away against Berkhamsted Raiders Reds today, after the match was reversed due to Pursley being under water again.

The game started really well with the Wood pushing for the lead and it was to come via a masterful finish from Gabz. A free kick was given against Berko for a foul some 25yds out, and as we had been practicing our long shooting recently, we knew Gabz was the right player to step up and take the shot which she skilfully put in the top corner of the net.

Wood were controlling the game and it felt like it wouldn’t be too long before we scored our second goal. That wasn’t to be though and after some panic and pinball football in our defence, the Reds managed to equalise past Emily who was having a magnificent game and couldn’t be blamed for this.

The Wood girls as we know are made from strong stuff so we expected a rapid and robust response but unfortunately today the team was just not at the races. Our passing, which we pride ourselves on, was off and we lost too many 50/50’s and from a corner we failed to clear our lines and went 2-1 down.

This was a visible shock to some of our girls and it hit them hard for the next 20/25 mins where we felt a little sorry for ourselves. Berko sensed this and pushed harder and managed to get their 3rd after a mix up between Emily and our rock Abi; both girls where desperate to clear the ball and both went for it, in the moment they both knew the other was coming so pulled out and neither cleared the ball, a genuine mistake by two very good footballers who had given their all and didn’t deserve to be 3-1 down.

At this point, players, coaches and supporters alike were all knocked and left scratching their heads as we just couldn’t believe what we were seeing. Changes were made with Kara, Ava & Amy coming into the fray. A long throw from Ava released Gabby who brought the score back to 3-2 with a clever early finish before the keeper could get set.

This was our chance to reestablish a foothold in the game but it wasn’t to be as the Reds managed to score their 4th to make it 4-2 Berko. This could have been the proverbial straw but our girls went again with Kara controlling and beating her opponent; with a drop of the shoulder she got her shot off and caught the keeper unawares to make it 4-3 and game on!

The girls pushing for an equaliser maybe switched off defensively and allowed Berko a 5th goal and another conceded on the day from a corner: 5-3 game over.

A special mention for our POM today - Elsie - who was a shining light in a very poor  team performance. After the game, Manager Dave said ‘Elsie is a dancing winger with some of the best feet in the league, she is working really hard with the coaches, developing the other side of her game at the minute and is becoming a real thorn in the side of opponents with her ability on the ball and her tenacity and fight off of the ball. I’ve seen Elsie score 5 goals and leave players in a twisted heap on the floor previously, but for me as her coach, today was extra special, seeing her work rate and desire to win the ball high, quickly and to make things happen with the ball. We take our knocks as a team and we move on and these amazing girls will be back in the fight next weekend.’
