The Word in the Wood #2

Posted on 6th May, 2019

The football season drew to a close this weekend for both our U14 Girls and U10 Boys.

The girls needed to take four points from a double header away against the recently crowned League Champions to gain promotion, a very tough task indeed. However, they rose to the challenge superbly and got off to a cracking start by winning the first match courtesy of a fine goal from the talented Taylor. The team pushed on remorselessly in the second match and after going a goal down, almost got the point they needed with the opposition keeper just making a late penalty save amidst scenes of huge excitement and tension. The club are immensely proud of all the girls, and give a heartfelt thanks to all their coaches throughout the season - Tim, Nicole, Andy & Adam - for giving it such a fantastic go. There is huge talent in this team and we sincerely hope they stay together as there is no doubt they will be red hot favourites for the title next season.

U10 Boys wrapped up the season with a match against talented opposition. The boys found it tough defensively but, were strong going forward and scored a peach of a goal, with Sammy cooly dispatching after an excellent through ball from Henry. Henry had a real stormer and picked up Man of the Match along with Alfie, who played very nicely in multiple positions, a real team player.

U16 Girls had another friendly and showed yet more signs of improvement with new girl Jemma producing a stunning performance in goal and a raft of strong performances from established players including new team Captain Ameera, Sophie, Aaliyah and Rosie.
