22/23 - The Word in the Wood #24

Posted on 29th March, 2023

U14 Boys played their final Spring Cup game of the season knowing they couldn't progress but, determined to put on a good performance nevertheless. Whetstone have had a tough season (but, keep going to their huge credit) and though the Wood always fancied their chances, we wanted to win with good play and keeping a clean sheet.

Led assuredly by Captain Makamian, the boys did just this, recording a super 7-0 victory. Marshall was steady and vocal in goal, keeping things nice and tight and earning a great shut-out. Ifeacho continued his excellent form, first setting up Hobbs (who rounded the keeper calmly before firing expertly into the net), and then burying a bullet header from an excellent Silva corner.

Fan then entered the fray and was in top form, sealing a quickfire hatrick of excellent, composed finishes that had the sodden Wood faifthful cooing like doves! Ifeacho sealed his brace with a similarly delightful finish, lifting the ball  cleverly over the stranded away keeper, before Silva again turned provider with another excellent corner delivery; this time the bucaneering Hones galloped forward like Red Rum before launching himself to meet the ball sweetly and send it flying into the top corner!

More good football was played by all the boys as they continue to develop very nicely indeed. Fan picked up MoM with a really dynamic midfield performance and that sweetly struck hatrick. Focus now turns to a tougher assignment in the League on Sunday but, the squad will be ready to raise their game further and secure three valuable points.
